THE Gold Coast Stunt Park is out of pocket more than $30,000 after thieves targeted the family business taking off with multiple motorbikes, tools and equipment.
Owner Colin Handley, an ex-soap actor and tae-kwon-do champion, said he has been left devastated after multiple shipping containers were raided by thieves on January 30.
Mr Handley, who has rubbed shoulders with Hollywood movie stars such as Chuck Norris and Johnny Depp, estimated $35,000 worth of equipment was taken including two training motorcycles, as well as a road and quad bike.
Even the security system was taken, he said.
“They cut the cameras and stole the camera memory box. God knows how they knew that was there, because not many people did.”
He said it was likely the culprits – who probably scoped the business and the vehicles – traced the wires because it was “difficult to believe it was an inside job”.
“It certainly wasn’t the work of a couple of random drug addicts because they had gloves on, they had all the tools … they knew everything was here,” he said.
FULL DIGITAL ACCESS: JUST $1 FOR FIRST 28 DAYS
Mr Handley – who discovered his business had been targeted the following day – said he was surprised thieves took not just one vehicle, but all.
“They would have been here for hours, I reckon four hours minimum.”
The break and enter comes at a time when the business was already impacted by COVID-19.
“It’s been a 25-year business building up all of that stuff, and accumulating all that gear, and for it to go in one evening was totally devastating. Why they targeted us? I’m not really sure, we’re a small family business.”
Police confirmed they were investigating the incident.
“Police have received a complaint in relation to a break and enter at a business at Southport Nerang Road at Nerang between 4pm on January 30 and 9am on January 31, 2021,” a spokeswoman said.
“It is alleged that a number of shipping containers have been broken into and numerous property stolen including motorbikes, a quad bike and photographic and computer equipment.
“No one has been arrested or charged at this time. However, police investigations are ongoing and they continue to appeal for any witnesses or information about the break-in.”
Stunt Park is a centre of excellence for iconic stunt classes and public experiences. Stunt classes, group activities and parties are held at the venue.
The business now has a GoFundMe page which has raised more than $3500.
