THE bushfire ravaged Gold Coast Hinterland has been given a funding boost from the state government as part of a push to bring tourists back to the area.
The state government has promised to provide $50,000 for a festival to celebrate Binna Burra’s recovery from last year’s devastating bushfires.
State Development minister Cameron Dick made the commitment while on the Gold Coast.
Me Dick said the money is to help “relaunch their great resort a little bit later this year”.
“We have been working very closely with Binna Burra since those terrible events of last year that destroyed that iconic recreational facility.”
Mr Dick said 46 of the 50 people left out of jobs had found alternative employment.
He said the festival would help celebrate the next generation of Binna Burra.
“Binna Burra is a major employer and contributor to the local economy, and the Scenic Rim relies heavily on the tourism market, so we were determined to streamline recovery actions and support the Lodge and region,” he said.
Mr Dick said the recent rains would make it difficult to determine when Binna Burra would reopen.
