A MAJOR sports and business summit held on the Gold Coast last year will now support the Queensland events industry “for years to come”.
Tourism and Events Queensland has been unveiled as a “Silver Partner” of international summit SportAccord, which was hosted at Broadbeach last year.
As part of the partnership, the Glitter Strip and the rest of Queensland will be heavily featured at events in 2021, 2022 and 2023.
COAST IN RUNNING TO HOST MAJOR EVENTS AFTER SUMMIT
TEQ CEO Leanne Coddington said the success of the Coast’s hosting last year would be used to pull in future events and partnerships.
“Negotiations for international events take time and through our long-term partnership with SportAccord we are aiming to further leverage the success of (the Gold Coast event),” she said.
“Sporting event decision makers from across the globe saw firsthand our world-class event hosting capabilities as well as experienced our amazing destinations.
“We want to ensure Queensland – and the Gold Coast – is firmly on the radar of sporting organisations looking to secure host cities for their future events.
“SportAccord will allow us to do that, in turn supporting the Queensland events industry for years to come.”
TATE SHOWS OFF COAST TO LEADING SPORTS DELEGATES
SportAccord 2019 was selected as a Platinum Award winner for Best Event at the 2019 Meeting & Events Australia state and national awards.
It was estimated the event drew 1500 delegates to the city from around the world.
