Police have released CCTV of cars that may be able to help their investigation into two arson attacks on Gold Coast businesses, including one owned by a social media identity.
Two suspicious fires broke out at Distribution Court, Arundel just days apart – one occurred at 3.30am Saturday and the other at 3.30am Wednesday.
One of the businesses that went up in flames was Eye Candy Motorsports, owned by influencer Troy Williams, aka Troy Candy.
The other was family-owned lunch-box business The Bento Buzz.
No one was injured but both shops were significantly damaged by fire.
Police are investigating possible links between the incidents due to their proximity.
Vision has been released of two vehicles - a white Hilux dual cab and a white Hyundai hatchback - that were seen in the area around the time of the fires.
Anyone with information about the vehicles, or either incident, is urged to contact police on 131 444.
Owners of The Bento Buzz said they were “heartbroken” to learn their Gold Coast warehouse was destroyed at the weekend.
The business – which had been operating for eight years – and its staff were known for their bright personalities and family-orientated spirit.
“My heart is broken and I can’t stop crying,” owner Peta said to their 42,000 Instagram followers.
“I have no other words for now, I need to wrap my head around this devastating turn of events.
“Thank you for your support of our family business over the last eight years.
“It’s meant the world to me.”
Photos captured the aftermath of the blaze, including marks staining the top storey of the building and smashed windows.
Skid marks on the road in front of the business suggested hoons had recently performed burnouts.
The Bento Buzz was located at number 26 in the complex while Eye Candy Motorsports was located at number 16.
Mr Williams broke the news to his 241,000 Instagram followers of his business going up in flames, writing: “something horrible has happened”.
It’s understood about six vehicles including a Rolls Royce were inside the custom car wrap business, with one sustaining minor damage.
A worker at the scene, who asked not to be named, said the police forensics unit was expected to return to the location later Thursday.
Security guards monitored the scene overnight and throughout Thursday.
“I would think old mate was unfortunate, there’s no relationship between the two (businesses), I don’t believe,” the worker said.
“Who would do something like this?”
Nearby shed owner Rob Johnstone said it was a “concern” if someone was targeting the complex.
“You’re supposed to be safe,” he said.
Mr Johnstone said he had spoken to a forensics officer on Wednesday and heard the perpetrators had jumped the fence into the complex.
“They put a ladder up (on to the building) and ran across the top of the building and put a fire bomb down,” he said.
Mr Johnstone said he purchased the shed six months ago after his car was keyed while parked on a Broadbeach street.
“What are you supposed to do? Leave your car in the street to get keyed or get fire bombed?”
Mr Williams shared an update to social media on Thursday morning saying he was “still lost for words”.
“I’m not sure where to even start picking up the pieces but what I can say is I’m blown away by the love and support from everyone,” he said.
“I’ve got such good people around me and such a good team.
“I’m just glad no one was in there when it happened.”
