Gold Coast police have declared a crime scene after finding a man dead in a Gold Coast unit.
At 7.30am on Friday, Gold Coast Police responded to reports of a man who had died on the fifth floor of a building on Barney Street, Southport.
The unit was declared a cirme scene just before 8am.
Gold Coast Senior Sergeant Brett Macgibbons said they had started door knocking inquiries throughout the Southport Waters building.
He said they were unable to determine if the death was suspicious.
He said there would be forensic investigations throughout the day as well as getting the background of the man, believed to be aged in his sixties.
“Forensics is going to be a big key to determine the possible cause of death,” he said.
Mr Macgibbons said they planned to look through nearby CCTV footage.
Queensland Ambulance Services were also on scene.
Motorists had earlier reported several police and ambulances on Barney Street as they went over popular Sundale Bridge.
A landscaper who had been working nearby saw authorities arrive on-scene.
“First one cop car arrived, then another, then another,” he said.
“Ambulance came next, but they didn’t have their sirens on, so I don’t know what that means.
“Then forensics – or what I think was forensics – showed up.”
A couple out on their morning walk were shocked to learn a dead person had been found along their route.
