CIRCUS icon Bernice Perry will undergo her 38th round of chemotherapy at Gold Coast University Hospital today as she continues her inspiring fight against ovarian cancer.
Ms Perry was a former juggler and acrobat as part of the family’s famous Perry Bros Circus. Last month, she and husband Robert were recognised for their contribution with a lifetime achievement gong at the Australian Circus Industry Awards.
In April, the Bulletin reported of Ms Perry’s journey after being diagnosed with the cancer in October 2018.

“The whole thing came as a shock. I’ve survived so much in my lifetime so to be struck like this out of the blue was a surprise,” Mrs Perry told the Bulletin.
Still an active entertainer, she had been making fairy floss at a local show when she felt her first pang of pain.
“I thought it was my back.”
“I went to the doctor the next day and I was diagnosed within 24 hours – there was no indication of anything.
“I want to make sure others know how fast it can creep up on you.”
The family circus goes back to late 1800s where they owned a halfway hotel near Tambo and once included a Tasmanian tiger.
