THE corner of Southport’s Queen and Scarborough Streets is set to be transformed, with a developer proposing a massive twin-tower complex.
The project of up to 45 storeys is called Oxford on Queen Street and has been put forward by PSR Southport MP Investment Pty Ltd.
A development application for the first tower was submitted to the council just three days before Christmas.

A second tower, featured in plans, is expected to be the subject of a future application.
But city leaders say the project could spark a rethink of the heavily congested Queen Street and lead to an upgrade in a bid to unclog the road.
The Gold Coast Bulletin revealed in October that the council had discussed introducing slip lanes into congested roads to help move traffic better and Queen St was named as a prime contender.
City Planning boss Cameron Caldwell said the project, just 50m away from the nearest light rail station, could play a role in rethinking Southport’s arterial road.
“We welcome the continued interest in the Southport central business district,” he said.
“This development would be well serviced by the light rail but it also may provide an opportunity to review the nearby traffic on Queen St.”
According to documents filed with the council, the first tower would have 240 units across its 45 storeys, with two levels of commercial office space above its ground-level retail shopfronts.
A childcare centre is proposed as well as recreation facilities, a lap pool and BBQ facilities.
If approved by the council, a likely result because it falls within the Southport PDA, it would replace existing low-rise buildings on the site.
