Gold Coast Mum’s horror as Facebook shut down fundraiser set up to get sick baby home

A GOLD COAST mum desperate to bring her seriously ill baby girl home from a Thai hospital has been dealt a shocking new blow after Facebook deleted the fundraiser set up to help her.

Baby Lilliana in ICU unit of Thai hospital

A GOLD Coast family who have been pleading for help to fly their sick baby home from Thailand are facing even more trauma tonight.

In a cruel turn of events Facebook has shut down the fundraising account that was set up to assist Elisha Robinson, whose eight-month-old daughter Lilliana is fighting for her life in a Phuket hospital.

Every dollar of the $12,000 donated to help the family has instead been returned to those who donated.

Little Lilliana contracted Meningococcal and septic poisoning on Friday. It is believed it will cost $120,000 to bring her home.

Late on Monday afternoon Ms Robinson shut down her Facebook account after being subject to abuse from heartless trolls.

Lilliana is in a Thai hospital and her parents just want to bring her back to Australia for medical treatment.

The fundraiser had been set up by a friend and was not connected to her accounts, however Facebook shut the fundraiser down without warning.

“I only deleted my Facebook because it’s all becoming too overwhelming and people were leaving some negative comments,” Ms Robinson told the Gold Coast Bulletin.

“They never said it would delete the fundraiser.

“I felt helpless all over again.”

People who donated received an automatic message from Facebook which said the money would be refunded.

The friends who set up the account for the desperate parents also received an automatic message stating they would be contacted by Facebook within three days.

“I am disgusted as my daughter doesn’t have three days to wait,” Ms Robinson said.

The family has now had to start again through Go Fund Me, which has raised just $290 of the $120,000 goal.

“Facebook have made this nightmare even worse – I didn’t think that was possible,” the distraught mum added.

“Devastating news. I feel so helpless for my baby.”

Facebook said the situation would be rectified.

“Our hearts go out to the family and their efforts to raise important funds for their daughter,” a Facebook spokesman said.

“In this instance, the fundraiser was removed automatically after the personal account linked to the fundraiser was deleted. We are reaching out to the family and working to rectify the situation with them.”
