FOOD trucks are firing up their portable ovens and stoves ahead of thousands of fairy lights being switched for the city’s newest night markets.
The Night Market is officially opening its gates tonight at Australia’s largest daytime market – Carrara Market.
Carrara Market, which has been operating on the Gold Coast for the past 40 years, has had a $300,000 upgrade which includes a new eatery called Hungry Hub to seat 250 people.
More than 30 food and drink stalls have been added – offering foodies a multicultural feast of cuisine – along with carnival rides and three entertainment zones featuring buskers and bands.
Suzie Smit has owned women’s fashion and accessories stall What Women Want for the 12 years and is “very excited” about the extended trading.
“All of us stallholders are very excited and I’m finding the customers who keep coming back are very happy with it expanding,” she said.

“It’s just something different for the markets. I know there are people who haven’t been back for a while but I think people will be impressed.
“My stall is opposite the Hungry Hub and I’ll be able to see all the beautiful food and hear the entertainment.”
Carrara Night Markets is open 4-9pm tonight and will be held every Friday and Saturday night.
