A MAN has escaped with just the clothes on his back and his dog after his house boat sank just metres from luxurious Sovereign Islands.
Water police and the Volunteer Marine Rescue responded to calls for help about 2.30pm.
On arrival they found the modest houseboat on its side and rapidly sinking in the Broadwater.
It was past three when emergency services finally helped the distraught owner and his dog from the vessel.
No one was injured, but the boat is expected to be fully submerged by the morning.
The cause of the sinking is unknown and Volunteer Marine Rescue are expected to help tow the boat in the morning.
