One of the biggest rappers on the planet has been spotted at one of the Gold Coast’s hottest dining destinations.
Canadian star Drake entertained his entourage largely undetected at The Oxley’s new Latin American restaurant Norté Mermaid Beach on Saturday night.
Staff set aside a special area for the super-selling rapper for the sitting which came ahead of his Brisbane tour dates kicking off on Monday.
Among the 30-strong Drake supper club at Norte was venue co-owner Nick Woodward, Surfers Paradise and Brisbane venue giant Artesian Hospitality’s managing partner Matt Keegan and a slew of Gold Coast fashion models and local social media personalities.
Gold Coast Drake fan Chloe Hort was thrilled to be among the 30 invited to attend, saying on Sunday: “I love Drake. He’s my favourite artist, I went to his concert when he came in 2017.”
Speaking on Sunday morning, of the supper club encounter, she added: “He was really chill, really cool, enjoying dinner with his friends. He was pretty undetected.”
Another attendee told GC at Large Drake picked up everyone’s tab in his group – plus surprised other diners unrelated to his soiree by picking up their tabs too: “The whole group was so lovely, they picked up the tab for everyone and it was a super fun night. We stuck around til late, but it was more an intimate drinks thing, not a full on party.”
On his tour so far, he has been attracting headlines for singling out fans in the crowd with some of his favourite signs and shelling out generous five-figure cash sums to them.
In a few days, Queenslanders will find out if he will extend as much generosity to the Sunshine State crowds.
He is playing three Brisbane dates, on Monday, Tuesday and the following Tuesday on March 4 at the Brisbane Entertainment Centre.
