Motorists are being urged to avoid a Gold Coast hinterland road after a car crashed into a power pole, injuring three people including a child.

A police spokeswoman said Bonogin Rd was closed at Warra Court in Bonogin after a two-car crash brought down power lines about 3.45pm Monday.

The road remained closed at 5pm while Energex crews worked to fix the pole, she said.

Motorists were urged to avoid the area with long delays expected.

A Queensland Ambulance spokesman said paramedics assessed a man, woman and child at the scene for minor injuries including back and chest pain, cuts and grazes.

They were taken in a stable condition to Gold Coast University Hospital.

The crash occurred on the one-month anniversary of a triple fatal, two-car crash on Bonogin Rd, which also involved a vehicle crashing into a power pole.

Retired skin doctor Christopher Fawcett, 79, Susan Zimmer, 70 and her daughter Steffanie Zimmer, 35, died at the scene of that crash.
