FROM an all girls school to a man’s world, this St Hilda’s trail blazer is one of the first to enrol at the previously all male King’s College, a residential college at The University of Queensland in Brisbane.
After 107 years as an all male on-campus accommodation, King’s will next year open up enrolments to women.
As one of the first to sign up, Gold Coast girl Lilly Woods said she was happy to kick off the next chapter in the university’s history – and also study alongside her older brother.
“I think it was the jealousy of seeing my brother go to King’s that made me want to be one of the first girls to go,” the Year 12 student said.
“Every time we drop him off I see the amazing space, they’re right on the river, and I was upset I had to miss out on that.
“On enrolment day I saw my brother there lined up with all the freshers. Seeing him on the campus – I wanted to be part of it.”

Ms Woods accepted the fact she would have to go to another college, until the announcement earlier this year.
“My mum texted me when she heard they had opened up to women. I was so exited, I thought it was the coolest thing,” she said.

Ms Woods hopes to study psychology and business while at UQ.
King’s Master Greg Eddy said girls from four Gold Coast schools had already applied.
“Although women have always been a large part of college life at King’s through academic, cultural and sporting pursuits, the first women to live here will have a really exciting opportunity to create their own history.”
