THE Bulletin today brings readers the first of the faces of this year’s Gold Coast Eisteddfod, which will feature up to 66,000 students.
Eisteddfod general manager Judith Ferber said this year’s competition got off to the best possible start with finalists appearing in the strings, wind and brass sections.
“These are soloists from the strings, wind and brass sections which began on Friday and conclude today at Robina Community Centre,” Ms Ferber said.

“The adjudicator, Jodie Davis, has been astonished by the amazing talent she has witnessed and is looking forward to seeing the String Orchestra sections at HOTA from August 12-14.”
Eisteddfod assistant general manager Nicci Wilson said all the entrants on the weekend had progressed through to the intermediate strings section.
The intermediate students are aged from 13 to 15 years, and the section is considered special because it is named after Don Robertson, a renowned Commonwealth Games volunteer and generous supporter and sponsor of HOTA.
“We had 11 finalists. All of those students have become eligible through performing in the previous days,” Ms Wilson said.
The Eisteddfod will take a breath tomorrow in a rare day off before piano and vocal solos begin at Robina on Wednesday.
More than 600 students are expected to perform in the vocal section and another 300 in the piano.
School performances are scheduled to start next Tuesday at HOTA. Goldcoastbulletin.com.au will continue to provide updates and photographs during the seven-week event.
