THE Gold Coast’s biggest artwork is set to be painted on the side of a high-end luxury tower planned for the Cafe D-Bah site at Point Danger.
Developer S & S Projects says it will create a “landmark” 200sq m work of art on its proposed 12-storey Awaken Residences if the project is approved by the Gold Coast City Council.

The project, filed with city hall in December, is expected to go before the planning committee before July.
S & S boss Paul Gedoun said the art would “reflect the project’s unique location.”
“We are looking to create something extra special on this site with a work of art that combines the key elements of the relaxed Coolangatta lifestyle – the sun, sea and surf, while reflecting on the area’s history and geographical significance” he said.
“This has never been done on the Gold Coast on this scale before where the built form provides a blank canvas that will deliver a superb cultural focal point for the community to enjoy.”
Mr Gedoun said he had allocated “a substantial budget” for the artwork, with a short-list being drawn up of artists who will submit their designs based on the guidelines established by the developer.
The project, which will have whole-floor apartments and a two-level penthouse, is expected to go to the market in April, with construction to begin in late 2021 if approved.
