MONGOLS and Finks bikie club members have been ordered to “attack on sight” amid ongoing hostility between the gangs, according to police intelligence revealed in court.

The allegations were contained in documents tendered to the Southport Magistrates Court during a bail application for Tyrone Poole, the alleged national office bearer of the Mongols, who is accused of brawling with rivals from the Finks this month.

Poole, who is charged with affray and a drug offence, is accused of using a cafe chair in the fight at the Australia Fair Shopping Centre on June 7.

Police allege the brawl, captured on CCTV, shows the “unplanned” and “prolonged” fight unfold as they crossed paths, forcing fearful community members to flee.

“Police have credible intelligence that both the Mongols and the Finks have ordered ‘attack on sight’ to any member of the other gang,” court documents seen by the Bulletin state.

“If released police believe the defendant will engage in similar behaviour if encountering rival gang members in public places, endangering himself and the public.”

Poole was granted bail. He breached conditions before being released again.

Court documents state there has been hostility “between these criminal organisations since the murder of Finks member Shane Bowden in 2020” and the recent arson of a Mongols-owned barber shop south of Brisbane.

No one has been charged with Bowden’s death.

Detective Superintendent Brendan Smith on Tuesday downplayed the tensions between the two clubs.

“There’s always tension between outlaw motorcycle gangs. It’s the nature of the beast. It ebbs and flows like everything,” he said, adding police were well-resourced in targeting gangs.

“It changes every day. It could be as simple as inter-gang, or it could be in relation to one of the members talking adversely to a girl in the street. I’m confident the community can feel safe.”

Supt Smith previously revealed police were investigating if Bowden, a former Mongol, was recruiting for the Finks at the time of his death.

“Clearly, we believe the motive is linked to the victim and the Mongols,” Supt Smith said this month. “Whether that is because he has left the club or done something in the interim to cause bad blood. We all know these gangs, there is no honour among thieves.”
