A popular Gold Coast councillor has been hospitalised in a health scare which forced him to miss the first budget meeting of the year.
Nerang councillor Peter Young this morning confirmed he had been hospitalised after with a ‘mystery infection’.
In a message to supporters this morning, the recently re-elected Cr Young said he would be “fine” and was in “the best of hands.
“I regret to advise I’m in hospital with some kind of mystery infection, and I’ll be missing the first session of budget discussions today,” he wrote on Facebook this morning.

“I came in yesterday to accident and emergency on referral from my GP after the infection had worsened.
“Since this photo was taken I had a huge allergic reaction to the intravenous antibiotics, yesterday evening, but a good night.”
Cr Young, who has served in council for 16 years, said he regretted being unable to attend today’s first budget meeting, at which Destination Gold Coast will present its pitch to city leaders for more funding.
“I’m sorry not to participate in the Budget debate today on your behalf in these trying times,” he said.
“The plight of all residents, community groups and small businesses weighs heavily on my heart and mind.”
