Gold Coast couple argue with teens on city waterway

A GOLD Coast couple claiming to have been sprayed by a jetskier they then verbally abused – and challenged to a fight – are talking to police about subsequent threats by online trolls.

In a video of the initial confrontation, posted to popular Facebook page “Tinny Bashing”, Rod and Renee Twitchin are seen threatening to report the jetskiers to police and calling the rider a “f**ktard” and “d**kface”.

The video, shared hundreds of times since posted yesterday afternoon, prompted Mr Twitchin to claim it has made them the subject of online abuse.

It is not suggested the teens in the argument are responsible for abusive comments made online.

In the video, Ms Twitchin can be heard telling the teens: “You’re in for it, mate.”

“You jumped on your f**king ski when you seen us, come and gave us a wop, and then took off, like the f**ktard that you are.

“You’re all the same. It’s the waterways, you little d**kface. You guys are absolutely a joke.

“Get all the regos, because you’re in for it now, you don’t know who we know. Guess what, cops are going to be coming for you guys because they’re looking for you 24-f**king-seven.”

Mr Twitchin is seen in the video climbing on top of one of the jetskis, saying “I’ll f**king do what I want”.

“Come on, let’s have a go, who wants to go first? You want to have a crack?” he can be heard saying.

Mr Twitchin declined to comment yesterday when contacted by the Bulletin but confirmed he is now speaking with police about his “options”.

On Facebook after the video was posted he claimed he and his wife had become the target of online trolls.

He wrote they were water testing their new tender when a teen on a jetski hosed them down with water, prompting the argument.

“As shown we tore him a new arse and then his mates after copping their crap,” the post reads.

“Overnight we have been threatened, business dragged through the mud, bounties of me being chinned, people wanting to put a c**k in Renee’s mouth, being called the most appalling names, countless missed calls from private numbers, screenshots of us with our granddaughter posted and slandered, and the list goes on.

“500 yobos on the hill and a keyboard! We have both requested the administration of the page to remove it only to be replied (with) ‘Why?’

“We are not the fun police but this is now beyond comprehension. Would I react the same again today, absolutely!”

Mr Twitchin added a person had reached out and confessed the jetski belonged to his son, and claims he now knows the name of the “Tinny Bashing” administrators.

A Google review of his business Rod Twitchin Marine called the pair “unprofessional” over the incident. A response to the review denies any knowledge of the altercation.

Gold Coast Water Police Senior Sergeant Jay Notaro told 7 News he understood the pair’s frustration.

“But people need to refrain from taking action into their own hands. Vigilante action is never the answer.”
