VETERAN Gold Coast radio announcer Richard Fowler will step back from Gold FM’s hit breakfast program to take care of his sick mother in New Zealand.
The Richard, Bridge and Spida show co-host said he hoped to work with 92.5 again in the near future but had made the tough call to turn his back on fulltime broadcasting to cross the ditch.
“Life is all about making decisions and in this case I know it’s the right one,” he said.
“Having weighed up the need to be available to assist my mother in New Zealand requires me to take a step back from my full time broadcasting life.
“I am very relaxed in making this call, however difficult it is stepping down from a great 22 years with the breakfast show.
“I have to spend time with her as she gets her knee op done, she doesn’t have any immediate family back home, I’m it,” he said.
“It’s a bloody hard call, but it has to be done.”
Mr Fowler said he planned to return to the Coast in a fill-in capacity for the studio.
“Still, I hope it’s not entirely the end of the road for me with Gold FM as I’ll be filling in here and there down the track.
“I thoroughly enjoy the relationship I have with our Gold FM audience, Bridge, Spida and all the professionals I work with.”
The announcement comes barely a year after Mr Fowler announced his engagement to girlfriend, Sherie Malcolm.
