A GOLD Coast cosmetic surgery clinic is offering “boob jobs” for less than $5000 after slashing the price of breast augmentation procedures by almost $2000.

Gold Coast company CosMediTour’s bargain breast augmentation procedures, performed by a plastic surgeon under general anaesthetic at its Southport clinic from as little as $4990, are the cheapest in Australia.

CosMediTour, which claims to be Australasia’s leading medical travel agency, is only offering the deal at its Southport surgery.

CosMediTour spokesman Greg Lemon said all procedures were performed by a fully qualified plastic and reconstructive surgeon, not a GP labelled a ‘cosmetic doctor’.

“The surgery is under full general anaesthesia with a FANZCA accredited specialist

anaesthetist, using high-quality German manufactured silicone gel implants in an ACHS accredited and fully licensed hospital,” he said.

The bargain price closes the gap between Australian and overseas surgery prices and gives CosMediTour a competitive edge over rival Southport clinic, the Cosmetic Surgery Institute.

The Cosmetic Surgery Institute has been offering $5990 bargain breast procedures since it opened on the Gold Coast late last year, despite reports of women experiencing serious complications after procedures at its established clinics.

Single mother Chloe O’Connor, 28, of Robina, yesterday became the first person to sign up for CosMediTour’s $4990 deal.

“I have wanted my breasts done since I was 18 years old,” she said.

“After my breakup with my partner and having my daughter, I lost a bit of weight and didn’t feel very womanly any more.

“I have been talking to CosMediTour about getting it done for a few months but being a single mum, I wasn’t too sure I could afford the $6880 price.

“For people like myself, who can’t afford what other people can, this is a great opportunity to afford something they’ve always wanted.”

Miss O’Connor, who is now booked in for surgery on March 4, said she had researched prices and clinics and explored options, including travelling to Thailand.

“A lot of places with a low price point don’t have plastic surgeons — they have doctors who go in and learn how to do it,” she said.

“I had a look at everything and had a look at going to Thailand but it would have been difficult. “I would have had no one to look after my daughter for a week and I don’t have time to go and lie next to a pool. I work fulltime.

“If it was going to be, I had to have it here.”

Breast implants by expert plastic surgeons average $10,000 in Australia but can also be done on a budget with a plastic surgeon supervising a junior plastic doctor.

Surgery is even cheaper again in Thailand.

Plastic surgeons recommend breast augmentation is best performed under general anaesthetic and have warned consumers to be wary of discount deals at practices that use sedation and local anaesthesia.

The Cosmetic Institute, which has come under national scrutiny after several women were rushed to hospital following their procedures, uses doctors who do not have the same qualifications as plastic surgeons.

The institute is Australia’s biggest cosmetic procedure provider, carrying out more than 15,000 procedures at its sites during the past four years.
