UPDATE:
PROTESTING Main Beach residents after losing a tower fight earlier this week fear council officers will recommend a new application for a 37-level tower in the exclusive suburb.
The Main Beach Association is viewing planning documents submitted on council’s online site only 24 hours after their fight to stop the 25-storey Monaco building was lost.
Main Beach Association leader Sue Donovan told the Bulletin: “Clearly the developers of the 37-storey building proposed for a tiny site near Monaco waited until the vote on Monaco before submitting their application for an even more inappropriate building.
“The view of the Main Beach Association is that council has lost control of the planning process.
“At the recent planning committee and full council meetings, officers were clearly incapable of providing adequate responses to councillors’ questions on topics such as shadowing, parking and traffic.
“It is our hope that having lost the battle on Monaco, the Main Beach community will work to change the thinking of council, resulting in less bulky buildings that fulfil council’s aims for greater density in the light rail overlay area but not at the expense of ruining the amenity of nearby buildings.”

A NEW 37-level tower is planned for Main Beach, confirming the beachside Gold Coast suburb’s status as a high rise hot spot.
Residents who have just fought and lost a battle against the Monaco, a 25-level tower opposite the Southport Surf Lifesaving tower, are stunned after learning another high rise apartment building application was lodged with council.
The Bulletin in a report today predicted Main Beach will see more developments with developers circling potential amalgamated sites.
“It’s going to be become a construction site and we will see 100-storey buildings here,” a resident said.

A planning application lodged by Urbis on behalf of a single applicant seeks council to approve a material change of use for multiple dwellings on two lots covering 812sqm on Main Beach Parade.
“The proposed development is a high-quality architectural addition to the Gold Coast skyline and the Main Beach locality,” Urbis writes in the report.
The building at 37 levels will include 29 single floor luxury apartments with three bedrooms, a multipurpose media room, three bathrooms and two allocated car parks in the basement.
The designs include one penthouse across two levels with four bedrooms, a multipurpose media room and six bathrooms.
“This is a purpose-built development, with an intentional design philosophy aimed toward the Main Beach residential market,” Urbis wrote.
“The development, as a result, provides a design that is complementary to the character of this subtropical, beach side suburb. The result is an ultra-slender tower, with a high-quality architectural finish.
“The proposed development achieves impressive views for the residents, while minimising impacts to surrounding towers which are generally orientated to the north and east.”
