The Gold Coast’s most popular barber has shared the one hairstyle they hate seeing come through their doors.
Backbone Barbershop in Currumbin was recently named by Bulletin readers as the number one barber on the Gold Coast.
After eight years in the industry, Backbone Barbershop owner Sam Squires said the “skullet” – completely bald on top and long on the sides – was still “one of the harder trims to fix up without shaving off”.
Mr Squires said while he has had some difficult trims over his years, he loved being apart of the barber community.
“I love the connection and interaction with people from all walks of life,” he said.
“I love how local barbershops are woven into the communities of the Gold Coast.”
Mr Squires opened his Currumbin Waters shop in 2018 and then added a second location in West Burleigh two years ago.
“After working in some great shops in the United Kingdom and Australia, with the support of my wife, I was inspired to jump into setting up Backbone Barbershop and implement what I had learnt,” he said.
“I have had the pleasure of using the skill to train and qualify other barbers, work on stage and recently movie sets with hair and makeup teams.”
Backbone Barbershop secured the top title with 54 per cent, Kirra Beach’s Double Blades Barbershop came second with 24 per cent and Bundall’s Mobile Barber Shop Depot was third with three per cent of votes.
