One of the most anticipated World Supercross races is coming to the Gold Coast for the first time this weekend and its operators say it will be the biggest and best line-up they’ve had.

Cbus Stadium will be packed with an almost sold-out crowd for the FIM World Supercross Championships on Saturday and fans will have a front-row seat to watch some of the top riders in the world.

Reigning winner Eli Tomac, Supercross champion Cooper Webb and legend Ken Roczen are on the bill, as well as 19-year-old Haiden Deegan, who made his 450 debut during round one of the championship at Buenos Aires this month.

FIM World Supercross Championship CEO Tom Burwell said holding the event on the Gold Coast was a dream they have had for years.

“The Gold Coast has always been high on our list of locations we want World Supercross to race in, so to finally bring the championship here is pretty special,” he said.

“The Gold Coast lives and breathes major events, and its strong action-sports fanbase made hosting World Supercross here a no-brainer for us.

“Everything about this city makes sense for a championship built on scale and pure energy.”

Mr Burwell said the “blockbuster weekend” was accompanied by their “strongest ever line-up of elite racing, fan experiences, rider access, entertainment and a festival-style atmosphere”.

“It’s going to be explosive,” he said.

“Seeing Haiden Deegan stepping up into the 450 class and lining up against supercross heavyweights adds another wild, unpredictable edge to the action.”

Mr Burwell said the first two rounds of the competition were “exactly” what they hoped for and confirmed they would be returning to the Gold Coast in years to come.

“We see this as a long-term relationship,” he said.

“The region has all the ingredients to host the championship for years to come, and the support from the city, stakeholders and fans so far has been incredible.”

Australian 450 Kawasaki rider Matt Moss said he was “pumped” to be racing on the Gold Coast.

“There is no better feeling then racing in front of your home fans, especially when racing the best guys in the world,” he said,

Mr Moss finished 8th at the Buenos Aires round and was ready to “get after it” in his home country.

“Prep has been great. I got to get some races in on my week off, and then travelled up to the Sunshine Coast to ride with Deegen so that’s been amazing.

“I think mentally I just have to believe in myself a bit more and really trust what I can bring to the race and just deliver on Saturday.”

Mr Moss said he planned to visit some of the theme parks while on the Gold Coast.

Gates for the Cbus Stadium event open at 4pm and the public games begin at 6pm.
