THE intimate wedding video of 23-year-old Gold Coast melanoma campaigner Ashleigh Hale (nee Simrajh) has been shared exclusively with the Bulletin by grieving parents Tony and Tracey Simrajh.

Ashleigh was wheeled down the aisle by her father to marry fiance Jason Hale at Sea World on September 5 and the couple sat side-by-side and exchanged moving vows.

After sealing their nuptials with a kiss, the newlyweds were wheeled into their reception on a lavish double bed, where Ash stayed for the rest of service, with her mother Tracey and sister Chelsea at her side.

Just 11 days after her wedding, Ashleigh passed away at home surrounded by her family and husband after a fierce battle with cancer.

“As a family we would like to thank the Gold Coast community for the amazing support they have given us over Ashleigh’s last few months,” said Mr Simrajh.

“Her and Jason’s wedding was pulled together in five days, an impossible task under normal circumstances, thanks to Gold Coast Girls in Business Facebook group and the local community.

“From the bottom of our hearts we can never thank everyone enough for helping us making this happen and we are honoured to share Ashleigh’s special day with everyone.

“We will also be forever grateful to the amazing people we have working at the Gold Coast University Hospital. We are truly blessed as a community to have these amazing people looking after us.”

Mr Simrajh said he would continue to spread his daughter’s message; to always get a second opinion, after she was allegedly misdiagnosed by two doctors.

“Ashleigh was diagnosed with melanoma cancer in May 2019 and in July 2020 we were told that all her treatment options had failed and that she only had a few months to live,” he said.

“This was devastating news and while everyone else started to grieve, Ashleigh was driven by a need to get her story out so others would not have to suffer as she did.

“She was a strong and determined young lady who wanted to leave a legacy and used all her energy to ensure no one else went through what did.

“Every day I get messages from people across the globe telling me they had got a second opinion because of Ash’s story and will now live a full life.”

Mr Simrajh said Ashleigh’s story would not end with her death and he was driven to continue campaigning on his daughter’s behalf.

“It’s now my life mission to get her message out to the world regarding Melanoma and the rates of misdiagnose to the world,” he said.
