A woman has been rushed to hospital with life-threatening injuries after a house erupted into flames on the Gold Coast.
Emergency services were called to the house fire on Pristine Ct in Varsity Lakes at around 8.30am on Tuesday.
A Queensland Fire Department spokesman said they had three crews on scene battling the blaze.
He said when they arrived the house was fully engulfed in flames which caused the roof to collapse.
Firefighters isolated the house and fought the blaze from the outside.
The fire was under control just after 9am.
Nearby residents shared photos of the black smoke billowing from the home.
Queensland Ambulance Service operations supervisor Paul Young said a 35-year-old woman had been taken to Royal Brisbane Hospital in an induced coma, with severe burns to more than half of her body on her arms and legs.
Mr Young said the woman managed to get out of the house and was found in the backyard by neighbours, who hosed her down.
She was conscious and talking with paramedics but was in severe pain, he said.
A 50-year-old firefighter who carried the woman to the front yard suffered a sprained back and was also treated at the scene by paramedics before being taken to hospital.
A neighbour said he saw a woman with her clothes “burnt to a crisp” being rescued by firefighters and put in an ambulance after a “huge bang” set the house ablaze.
A Gold Coast police spokesman said they had declared the area a crime scene while officers investigate how the fire started.
