A crime scene has been declared after a tobacconist went up in flames on the Gold Coast.
Emergency services were called to the business fire on Price St in Nerang at around 4.30am on Friday.
Multiple fire crews rushed to the scene and were able to extinguish the fire but it was understood the business was “significantly” damaged.
Paramedics were called to the scene and remained on standby, but nobody was injured.
A Queensland Police spokesman said they’d declared a crime scene while a fire investigator determined the cause of the blaze.
“Thick volumes of smoke” were billowing from the building when fire crews arrived on scene, a Queensland Fire Department spokeswoman said.
She said six crews responded to the fire in a shop in a two-storey commercial premises.
Crews had to force entry into the building, the QFD spokeswoman said, working to extinguish the fire and protect surrounding exposures.
Fire crews left the scene at about 6.20am after conducting air-quality testing.
