The owner of a luxury car rental store which went up in flames at a major Gold Coast intersection says it was a “crazy morning” but “we’re all good”.

Emergency services were called to a fire inside the Qld Luxury Car Rentals building at the intersection of Bundall Rd and Ashmore Rd, Bundall at about 6.40am on Friday.

A Queensland Fire Department spokesman said three crews were called to the scene.

He said it was understood the blaze was sparked by a car that caught fire inside the building.

The fire was under control at around 6.50am.

A Gold Coast police spokeswoman said a Mercedes Benz was “extensively damaged” in the fire.

Queensland Luxury Car Rentals owner Bran Sri Nanthakumar said: “We’re all good. No one was hurt and the police are investigating.

“I’m pretty sure they’ve found the guy. Seems like a homeless guy from what the witnesses were saying. Crazy morning.

“It’s all fine, it’s all under police investigation luckily it was just one car as well. Everyone’s all good and the good samaritans that tried to put the fire out really helped as well and fire fighters and the police,” he added.

Acting Chief Superintendent Peter Miles said the fire was being treated as suspicious.

“It is a suspicious fire,” he said.

“It was a car rental facility and so our investigations are continuing and we’ll take good advice from the firies as to what the cause of that fire is.”

Gold Coast police and paramedics were on scene on standby, but have since confirmed no one was injured.

Police are urging anyone who has information or dashcam footage in the area to contact them at 131 444.

Investigations into the cause of the fire are ongoing.

The incident is one of serious multiple business fires across the Gold Coast in recent months.

It follows a blaze at car-wrapping business GB Designs, owned by ex-motocross enthusiast Grant Bink on Scottsdale Drive, Varsity Lakes on June 27. That blaze engulfed three businesses at hte Varsity Lakes property, with 13 fire fighters and eight trucks attending to battle the fire. Fire fighters at the scene said the intense heat made it hard to save anything.

The Varsity Lakes fire occurred just two kilometres from where a Burleigh Heads tinting business was burnt down the following week - also in suspicious circumstances.

Queensland Luxury Car Rentals was taken over by Mr Nanthakumar in 2019 and has since become a pillar in the community, hosting family fun days with car rides for kids and supporting non-for-profits such as the Perry Cross Foundation and children’s charity Variety.
