HUNDREDS of dead fish have floated to the surface at a popular Gold Coast lake this morning.

The fish were spotted in the lake at Emerald Lakes Wetlands.

A source told the Bulletin there “would have been close to a 1000 dead fish and eels” floating on the water’s surface.

The area is said to have a foul odour.

It’s believed there were no dead animals in the lake yesterday.

While the Bulletin photographer was taking pictures, they saw fish rise for air before suddenly dying.

A Gold Coast City Council spokeswoman said they had not been contacted about it but will be investigating.

More to come.
