THERE are plans to expand the Gold Coast’s Earle Haven retirement village just weeks after its nursing home wing was controversially evacuated.
Plans have been submitted to create new units at the Nerang complex as part of its independent living area.

The units would be built on the Mount Street side of the complex, with four on ground level and the remaining four on the first levels.
The initial plans were drawn up in June, just weeks before the village’s higher care facility was evacuated following a dispute between the owner and care providers.
This event has since been probed by the Royal Commission into Aged Care.

The evacuation did not affect the independent living units.
Each of the units will have three bedrooms and a seven sqm balcony or courtyard.
The plans were submitted to the Gold Coast City Council last week and will go before the council’s planning committee for approval later this year.
