Valentine's Day 2019: Dracula’s Cabaret getting ready for their biggest event of the year this Valentine's Day

Love is in the air today as couples across the Gold Coast celebrate Valentine’s Day. But if you can’t figure out what to do, there’s plenty of activities on offer. Check out everything that’s going on around the Coast today here.

IT’S a venue known for its vampires and bloodshed but this time of year Dracula’s Cabaret is known for something different — romance.

Valentine’s Day is one of the horror-themed restaurant’s biggest events of the year, with couples crowding the space for a night of comedy and gore.

They’re just one of dozens of businesses and restaurants hoping to cash in on the romantic holiday across the Gold Coast this week.

Operations manager Luke Newman said he was not surprised to see the difference in their Valentine’s audience.

“We’re used to having so many different-sized groups, whether it’s birthday parties or people with friends in town,” he said.

“But Valentine’s Day for us is almost exclusively couples, so it brings a very different, exciting vibe to the venue.

“It’s one of those immortal celebrations that will last the test of time, so this year we’ve put together a ‘Love Never Dies’ special event.”

The venue is calling on couples to “dress undead” for the evening, awarding prizes for best dressed and featuring Valentine’s-themed cocktails.

“We’re seeing all kinds of crazy things this year so it might be zombie makeup, an undead bride and groom,” Mr Newman said.

“We just love when people have a bit of fun with the evening. Dracula’s is an experience that’s perfect for any manner of couple, it’s such an exciting night that you can have a great time together and enjoy a show all at the same time.”

Second-in-charge Sam King has been performing with the show for four years now, and has seen scores of couples come and go.

“Our venue changes up a little for Valentine’s Day, we’ve got some signature cocktails, we’re mentioning the romantic evening in the show,” he said.

“In this day and age couples come in all shapes and sizes so we’re really excited, we can fit twos, we can fit groups, whatever your pleasure is we can cater for it.”

“I can’t think of any particular stories from Valentine’s Day, but there are a lot of dark corners, so I assume, you know.”
