A DOG that viciously attacked a partially blind pet pooch at a Gold Coast park and left its owner injured has been deemed dangerous by the tribunal.

The bull Arab/mastiff cross named Indie attacked a shar pei at Gladys Moncrieff Park on September 18, 2018.

The shar pei, named Agatha, was 13 years old and only had one good eye at the time of the attack.

The pet pooch was walking with owner Diane Clare on a leash when approached by Indie and another dog, Posie, who were within the park with their trainer.

The Queensland Civil and Administrative Tribunal ruled a fight ensued and both the trainer and Ms Clare attempted to separate the dogs.

After they eventually did, Indie’s collar became undone and the dog again attacked Agatha, latching on to its leg.

During the ordeal, which lasted up to three minutes, Agatha suffered “extensive” wounds which were consistent with a “vicious attack” although has since recovered, the tribunal heard.

Indie also suffered superficial injuries which did not require medical attention.

Ms Clare was distressed and was treated by paramedics at the park, while the trainer was also injured.

The Gold Coast City Council initially declared Indie a regulated dangerous dog after an investigation into the attack, but owner Shelley Brown appealed the decision.

Ms Brown told the tribunal, Indie and her other dog were well behaved and could not recall any other incidents of aggression.

“I am satisfied that the Council made the correct and preferable decision in declaring Indie a dangerous dog,” Member Vass Poteri said.

“The legislation and the facts of this matter do not allow for any other outcome.
