A GOLD Coast council candidate is promising clubs at least $100 per member from his divisional funds, if elected, to help reduce membership fees.
Division 10 candidate Adrian Johnston announced the community initiative as a major plank of his election campaign heading into the March 28 poll.
He said divisional funds should be used to make sport more affordable for children, enable older Coast residents to play bowls and “mums and dads to be part of their chosen weekly sporting fixtures”.
“I want to see the community, at all levels and ages, being able to afford to participate in their chosen sport,” Mr Johnston said.
“It doesn’t matter if it is lawn bowls, weekly tennis fixtures, netball or soccer for the kids, this approach is universal, fair and gives everyone the chance to be healthy and active.”
Mr Johnston said he believed his community sporting policy would require minimal administration with clubs applying to the Division Funds Community Grants program.
He said the amount for each club would be capped at $10,000. “We will keep the administration as simple as possible,” he said.
