Gold Coast daredevil Damien Rider has completed what he calls “his toughest gig yet”.
The Gold Coast based mindset coach pulled a 2.8 tonne Jeep truck 12km in Adelaide on Sunday in support of Breakthrough Mental Health Research Foundation.
Mr Rider said he thought it would be his last stunt for some time.
“I thought this one was going to really challenge me and it did, it was tough,” he said.
“But it didn’t challenge me mentally so now I’m like s--t what else can I do? I don’t know what my limits are, I keep pushing and pushing but I just can’t find them.”
Mr Rider, who featured on television show Australian Gladiator, has been no stranger to extreme adventure conquests.
“I’ve climbed out of a hot-air balloon with no parachute, climbed up to the top in -1 degrees, 30 per cent less oxygen while going 25 km/h.
“I’ve paddled in the Maldives for 480km over nine days – these things don’t challenge me anymore,” he said.
“I thought this was going to be my last one for awhile.
“Going uphill the truck was pulling me backwards so I would have to get on all fours, scream like a lion and crawl up the hill digging my nails into the bitumen to try and pull myself along – my brother was in the car and he was getting emotional just watching me.”
Rider said his hamstrings seized up at the 8km mark, but he did not consider giving up.
“People have pulled cars before but nothing of this weight for that amount of time and in such a fast amount of time (3.5 hours),” he said.
“In September I organised the same event during the City-Bay (fun run) but I had seven men pulling and pushing the same truck.”
Rider said the September event was about raising awareness for mental health and sharing the load with others to be able to move forward.
He added: “Sometimes the toughest part of your journey you have to do alone, that’s what this Sunday was about.”
