A motorcyclist who went missing after falling 25 metres down an embankment on the Gold Coast has spoken about how he wondered if he could survive until daylight.

A MOTORCYCLIST who fell 25 metres down an embankment while on a group ride wondered how long he would survive until he was found.

Kevin Franklin, 75, was riding with his club in Springbrook last Wednesday when he failed to return home to Brisbane and his family raised the alarm.

Authorities were called about 7.30pm and searches were conducted along the ride but it was his concerned granddaughter Terri Franklin who found her pop.

Mr Franklin told the Today Show it was a “very long, painful wait” until he was found.

“I was lying on a rock and I sort of knew sooner or later somebody would have would come along,” he said.

“But I kept wondering how long I was going to survive until daylight purely because of the pain level I was experiencing and the fact I had to lie on hard rocks behind my neck.”

Ms Franklin told the Today Show she couldn’t “sit still” knowing her pop was missing and joined her father in search of Mr Franklin, who she found about 12.30am in thick scrub near Gold Coast Springbrook Road at Springbrook.

As soon as I heard his voice, I knew that he was breathing, I knew he would be OK. He’s very strong, very strong mentally.”

A MOTORCYCLIST who went missing after he failed to return home from a group ride had to be winched to safety after falling 20 metres down an embankment.

Police said the 75-year-old man was riding with his club in Springbrook on Wednesday and when he failed to return home to Brisbane, his family raised the alarm and realised he was missing.

He had last been seen at an “unspecified location” on Mudgeeraba Springbrook Rd, police said.

Authorities were called about 7.30pm and searches were conducted along the ride route.

It’s believed he was found by family and friends about 12.30am in thick scrub about 20 metres down an embankment near Gold Coast Springbrook Road at Springbrook.

The rider suffered multiple fractures and was winched out by fire crews.

Paramedics treated the man and he was taken to Gold Coast University Hospital in a serious but stable condition.

Police are investigating the crash.
