The Currumbin by-election is set to be on March 28, the same day as the local government poll.
Premier Annastacia Palaszczuk is poised to make the recommendation to the Governor Paul de Jersey for approval.
The reasons are reduced costs to the electorate from staging both polls on the same day, and convenience for voters.
The by-election has been sparked by the shock resignation of veteran Currumbin MP Jann Stuckey.
“So we’ve received the letter from Jann Stuckey. It is going to be my recommendation that the writ be issued to hold the Currumbin by-election at the same time as the council by-election on March 28,” the Premier said.
Labor has endorsed Kaylee Campradt and the LNP’s candidate is Laura Gerber in a seat judged as winnable by the ALP.
