Ms Hecke thanked her supporters but appeared to take a swipe at the voting public.
“It has been staggering, it’s an understatement, to see some of the percentages coming through,” she said.
“I was obviously surprised as the rest of you, I am gobsmacked by some people’s thought processes and their voting preferences is really interesting, but let’s keep watching the count.
“I haven’t lost complete hope.”
Ms Hecke also spoke directly to her passionate supporters.
“I know many of you will be extremely disappointed in seeing some of these percentages coming through because it absolutely is disappointing,” she said.
“That’s the biggest word I can use too. Disappointing, staggering, extraordinary.
“Hopefully that will improve.
“I would have liked to have thought it was a closer race than it is. The people of the Gold Coast have voted.”
