THE Broadwater Parklands would have restaurants and cafes along with a museum under a plan by a council candidate to turn it into a Southbank-style tourist attraction.
Businesswoman Jo Sherline, who is standing in Division 6, is calling for a total rethink for the future of Broadwater Parklands.
“Broadwater Parklands as it currently stands is great for families with kids but doesn’t provide a lot for other age groups. I hope to provide something for everyone,” she said.
“I want it to be like a Central Park in New York or Southbank in Brisbane, somewhere the local residents can enjoy on a daily basis.”
If elected in the division, Ms Sherline proposes the following projects:
● A stunning iconic freshwater inner city beach lagoon.
● A new museum celebrating the aboriginal connection to the area.
● Multiple areas across the park providing different levels of dining options.
● Increase the tree canopy cover across the park by 40 to 50 per cent.
● A community garden for locals young and old to be used as an education facility.
● An enclosed off-leash dog park for locals and their pets.
● Permanent space for a concert Bowl to accommodate crowds between 5000 to 10,000.
Ms Sherline said council needed to create more specialised playgrounds scatted throughout the park along with walking, cycling trails and a skateboard bowl.
“The vision would be open to public consultation and input. It would be a park for the people by the people,” she said.
