QUEENSLAND’S borders will be closed to the rest of the country from midnight on Wednesday under drastic new measures revealed by Premier Annastacia Palaszczuk.
The decision was made in Cabinet this morning as the coronavirus pandemic escalates.
“Cabinet has decided to close Queensland’s borders. I’ll bring you more detail soon,” Ms Palaszczuk said in a message on Twitter.
Ms Palaszczuk later said that the Queensland Disaster Management Committee will meet tomorrow to “finalise details – including exemptions”.

This will pose an issue on the Gold Coast where the border runs through Gold Coast Airport and central Coolangatta.
Southern Gold Coast Chamber of Commerce president Hillary Jacobs said businesses and families urgently needed clarity on what the decision means for those people who lived in Tweed Heads but worked north of the border.
“We need clarity on this immediately,” she said.
“This has massive ramifications for the Gold Coast region, people in NSW and the many families who work on either side.”
