Earlier, a parent told the Bulletin said she had not received a text message or email from the school and that she had tried to call the school’s administration number multiple times but no one was picking up.

“I’m just going to wait here to see what happened,” she said. “I’m just worried about their safety.”

Another parent of a Coombabah student said her son was taken to the oval at 8.30 am this morning after they were notified of a threat.

“For me it is terrifying, he is my baby,” the mother told the Bulletin.

The Queensland Department of Education this afternoon released a statement explaining the lockdown.

“Like all Queensland state schools, Coombabah State High School holds the safety of its students and staff as a top priority,” it read.

“At approximately 8.15am today the school initiated emergency procedures as a precaution in response to a threat received. The Queensland Police Service was immediately notified and attended the school.

“Parents and carers have been informed of the situation via Facebook, text message and an email to parents.”
