A company linked to a failed Gold Coast caravan dealer is promising to give away a $395,000 McLaren in a competition promoted by a popular Byron Baes identity. But there’s a catch.

EV sales in Norway hit record but new taxes may slow their roll

A company linked to failed caravan dealer Daniel Robert Klaus is promising to give away a McLaren supercar.

Let’s Go Beverages says customers in Australia or New Zealand who purchase a bottle of its ‘Premium Gold’ vodka costing $153.85 will be entered into a draw to win the vehicle. It is valued at NZ$395,000.

“We are back live for Australian and New Zealand customers,” Mr Klaus wrote on social media.

“Simply purchase our new premium Gold bottle and go in the draw to win a BRAND NEW 2022 GT Mclaren!”

Mr Klaus is one of two directors of Let’s Go Beverages Holdings Pty Ltd alongside 21-year-old Kody Mark Jenkins. Its principal place of business is listed in company documents as a retail outlet on Hope Island Rd.

Let’s Go Beverages has enlisted the help of male model Jade Kevin Foster, who appeared in reality TV show Byron Baes, to help promote its competition.

Mr Foster is shown in a video on the company’s social media sitting behind the wheel of a McLaren.

Let’s Go Beverages says the winner of the competition will be drawn at random at 11am on January 16.

However the winner may find collecting their prize somewhat challenging, especially if they live in Australia.

“The winner must arrange to pick up the Prize from the Auckland-based location determined by the Promoter and notified to the winner within fourteen days of being contacted by the Promoter,” the competition’s terms and conditions read.

“If the Prize winner does not pick up the Prize within that period, their Prize will be void and no compensation will be payable.”

In February last year Mr Klaus pleaded guilty in the Southport Magistrates Court to 16 charges including failing to supply caravans to customers of his former company Viking Caravans and Campers Ltd and trading without a motor dealer licence.

The charges followed an investigation by the Office Of Fair Trading.

Mr Klaus was fined $20,000 and his company fined an additional $20,000. He was also ordered to pay $417,800 in compensation to consumers as well as more than $3,000 in court fees.

Mr Klaus’s matter was again mentioned in Southport Magistrates Court on December 20, after it was reported he had failed to pay all restitution by the August 9 deadline.

Court documents reveal the case was listed for a breach hearing on November 22, as Mr Klaus still owed amounts of $51,790 and $5500 to two former customers.

Defence lawyer Ron Behlau said at the time that Mr Klaus had paid those remaining monies to the court that day, but the registry had not been made aware of those paid by the deadline and believed all were outstanding.

Magistrate Dzenita Balic ordered the final payments be released to the recipients and said there was no cause shown to take the matter any further.

Mr Klaus was also the sole director of a Paradise Point bar called Brewed Brewery which closed for renovations in February last year but has yet to reopen.
