A $4 million emergency services command centre built for the Commonwealth Games will be trialled at the GC600 this weekend.
Social media posts, photos taken on police mobile phones, traffic maps and emergency radio will all filter into the centre to help keep the community safe.
Queensland Police Assistant Commissioner Peter Crawford said the centre would also have access to hundreds of CCTV cameras across the Gold Coast.
“We will also have access to a range to other technology that we use in policing and don’t like to talk about (for safety reasons),” he said.
The location of the state of the art facility is being kept under wraps for security reasons.
The centre, which will be a central command point for police, ambulance, fire and council workers, will be trialled for the first time ahead of the Commonwealth Games.
The trial this weekend aims to ensure officers know how to operate the equipment during a major event.
The centre will be used again during schoolies week for another range of testing ahead of April’s Games.
Gold Coast Police Assistant Commissioner Brian Codd said once the Games was over the centre would be a valuable tool to help modernise policing across the Gold Coast.
