The body corporate of a beachfront Surfers Paradise tower wants to open a coffee shop to service pedestrians on the Oceanway.
The cafe is proposed for a site at the Surfers Aquarius on the Beach tower which sits just north of Jewel and is the latest eatery of its time to be aimed primarily at pedestrians.
According to plans lodged with the council, the are will be landscaped to create the cafe inside a “pod”, along with a small deck for tables and chairs.
“The proposed cafe is small scale and is intended to service the residents of the adjoining Surfers Aquarius’ building, tourists staying in the adjoining and nearby high-rise accommodation towers and general passers-by which are using the ocean way footpath for recreational purposes,” the report reads.
“The proposed built form of the cafe complements the existing residential tower development while also remaining relocatable.
“The existing landscaped areas of the development are proposed to be extended through the establishment of a new garden bed located between the cafe and the southern property boundary, which includes space for feature trees, shrubs and ground covers to soften the built form and assist in maintaining residential amenity.”
The project will go before the council’s planning committee in early 2024.
