A Gold Coast resident believes she has been effectively “banned” from her own home after receiving a bizarre letter in the mail.

Couran Cove Island Resort resident of 11 years, Rhonda Dalgleish, was shocked to open the letter sent on Saturday.

The correspondence, titled ‘barring notice’ with logo of Couran Cove Island Resort, South Stradbroke Island, stated she was barred from “any property under the control of operator within Couran Cove Island Resort” for an indefinite period.

The barring included areas such as the Sunset beach, Marlin Bar and cafe.

The Bulletin has seen the letter which states the reason for the order was due to “diminishing resort on social media” and “public nuisance on resort premises”.

Ms Dalgleish said she knew a handful of other resort residents who had similar notices.

“I’ve had one once before but I never actually got the notice,” the retiree said.

“I was just banned from the ferry, but this time around I’m banned from everywhere.”

A Couran Cove spokesman said it was “ludicrous” for the resident to suggest she was banned from her own home.

“There is no prohibition from the resort for her to live in her home,” he said.

“Like all people who visit the venues, she is a guest in the resort venue.

“So, to ensure all patrons can enjoy themselves within the venues, it is reasonable for the resort to enforce a policy that requires all patrons to conduct themselves appropriately in all venues, irrespective of whether they are a hotel guest or a resident.

“The resort management will issue barring notices to any patron who conducts themselves in a manner not appropriate in a venue – which is the same process any responsible venue will do.”

Ms Dalgleish denied any wrongdoing, describing the reasons given for her barring notice as “ridiculous”.

“That is absolutely rubbish,” she said.

She is considering legal action.

It comes as dozens living at the island resort scramble to find alternative accommodation after a letter stating their electricity, gas and water services would be cut from 10am on April 17.

The reason given was due to alleged unpaid body corporate fees. There are five bodies corporate involved on the island, with complex court proceedings playing out over allegations of millions of dollars in unpaid levies.
