It was supposed to be the future of the Gold Coast.
Former Gold Coast mayor Ron Clarke opened Couran Cove Island Resort on South Stradbroke Island to the public 25 years ago to much fanfare.
The exclusive eco resort enticed both tourists and residents to visit the incredible facilities away from the mainland.
Celebrities, international athletes and politicians were soon flocking to make the trip across the Broadwater to experience everything Couran Cove had to offer.
But the shine began to wear off in the 2010s when multiple issues came to light, including its complex body corporate structures and legal dramas.
Now only time will tell whether Couran Cove can return to its former glory.
