A glitzy new shopping centre in the heart of the Gold Coast is starting to take shape after months of delays.
Several retailers in Southport’s Queen Street Village complex have opened their doors independently ahead of the centre’s full completion.
Retailers open are Hanaromart, Dendy Cinemas, The Fish Tank, Greencross Vets, The Thirty Two dentist, EMF and Freedom Suites.
It is understood retailers have been told a grand opening of the centre is likely to happen in September.
As of this week, several shopfronts were in the process of being fitted out, while others sat empty.
The Bulletin contacted developer Property Solutions for an update on when the rest of the precinct would open, but did not receive a response by deadline.
The Fish Tank owner Thi Nguyen said she was given the green light to open her fish and chip restaurant weeks ago when the store fit out was complete.
She described the eatery as a “classic fish and chip shop with a modern twist”.
“We’re excited to be open,” Ms Nguyen said.
“This was a long time in the making for us to open a fish and chip shop to serve the community here.
“We’ve had stores elsewhere and we thought this was a beautiful location.”
In March, the Bulletin reported Stage 1 of the $500m Queen St Village site was to be finished by late May or early June.
However, this was delayed due to poor weather, Covid and labour and material shortages.
Once complete, the integrated development will include new retail, dining, entertainment, residential, childcare, commercial, hotel and health facilities.
