Final tee off for iconic attraction

An iconic tourist attraction in the heart of Surfers Paradise will close later this month to make way for an $800m triple-tower development.

King Tutt’s Putt Putt – one of the Gold Coast’s most popular tourist attractions – will have its last day of trading and final tee off on January 20.

The 1.15ha block it sits on will be transformed into three towers boasting 792 apartments, with a retail and dining plaza and a suspended glass-bottom lap pool.

King Tutt’s owner Lynley Washington said it was the end of an era for the business, which she started in 2001.

“My partner worked in the theme parks and we wanted to offer something for people to do that was affordable, fun and competitive,” she said.

“It has been a great business. It’s great to see families do things together.

“This has been my life for 20-plus years, so I need to get a life now.”

Kings Tutt’s has three, 18-hole courses decked out with ancient Egyptian and Jurassic Park hand sculpted statues and paraphernalia.

Ms Washington said everything was for sale and must go.

She is open to offers from parties interested in purchasing individual pieces, or the business as a whole.

“Everything is for sale. The name as well,” Ms Washington said.

“I would love to see King Tutt's carry on somewhere. That would be great.”
