Police have charged a man after he allegedly stabbed another man in the face and assaulted a woman at Surfers Paradise.

Emergency services were called to a unit on The Esplanade about noon Wednesday where they found a 23-year-old man in reception suffering a cut to his face.

Police will allege two men and two women who were known to each other were in a unit at the complex when a verbal argument broke out between the group.

It will be further alleged that argument escalated to a physical fight between the two men, during which a 23-year-old man was stabbed in the face with a knife.

A 29-year-old man then allegedly used his hand to strike the chest of a 24-year-old woman, who was attempting to intervene.

The stabbing victim was taken in a stable condition to Gold Coast University Hospital.

Police arrested the 29-year-old Surfers Paradise man in a unit.

He was charged with one count each of grievous bodily harm, common assault and breach of bail.

He is due to appear in Southport Magistrates Court on Thursday.

Man stabbed in face at tourist hot spot

June 22: A man has been stabbed in the face during a brazen daylight attack in a popular tourist hot spot.

A man received injuries to his nose and forehead after he was stabbed on The Esplanade, Surfers Paradise, about noon Wednesday.

He was taken in a stable condition to Gold Coast University Hospital, where he is expected to undergo further treatment.

Multiple police vehicles and a carpet cleaning van were seen outside an apartment building.

An officer removed paper bags from the scene.

Queensland Ambulance Service senior operations supervisor Adam Flory said police administered first aid to the man before paramedics arrived.

Mr Flory said the man who was stabbed had been involved in an “altercation”.

A police spokeswoman said another man was assisting police with inquiries.

She was not able to say whether the men were known to each other before the incident.
