Developer launches 67-berth Mantaray Marina in race for superyacht supremacy
The Gold Coast's Broadwater faces an unprecedented luxury marina arms race as three major developments compete to capture the world's wealthiest boat owners.
The battle for superyacht supremacy on the Broadwater has begun, with plans for the Spit’s next giant marina unveiled.
Developer Gordon Corp and its partner Bruce Mathieson, will open the $400m Mantaray residential development in 2026, with the three-storey ultra-luxury complex nearing completion.
Now the partners are launching plans for the 67-berth Mantaray Marina through a 12-week expression of interest campaign.
The marina, which will open in mid-2026 and will cover 13,000sq m, will have berths ranging from between 10-60m, with leases starting from $2000 per month.
Marina manager Luke McCaul said there had already been significant early interest from the market.
“Marina berths are scarce, and vessel owners are looking for a high level of amenity, security and privacy,” he said.
“Mantaray Marina has been designed with that in mind and we have invested heavily in infrastructure, but equally in the calibre of the people who will be managing the marina and concierge operations.
“The Gold Coast Broadwater offers year-round boating conditions, direct access to calm, protected waterways and immediate passage to the Pacific Ocean.
“Based on the early interest we’ve received, Mantaray Marina will be well-patronised.”
It comes just weeks after demolition began at the neighbouring Mariner’s Cove site where the dock of the 1980s-era complex has been dismantled to make way for a “landmark” new superyacht terminal and “floating pavilion” which will form the first stage of the $480m Ritz Carlton development.
Developers Giannarelli and Pelligra groups say the new high-end dock, to be known as the Main Beach Superyacht Marina and previously described as a “white glove” facility, will also become operational in mid-2026 ahead of the remaining site being cleared to make way for the three-storey hotel.
Gordon Corp is promoting the Mantaray Marina as offering next-level luxury features which will make it stand apart from its competition.
Mr McCaul said the company had assembled a high-level team to work on the marina.
“All berths enjoy access to a series of signature experiences, including The Mantaray Club, an iconic two-storey floating lounge positioned at the entry to the marina,” he said.
“The lower deck will feature a restaurant and bar showcasing coastal cuisine, while the upper deck will provide a flexible lounge and function space reserved for VIP events and corporate functions.
“On land, The Captain’s Lounge will offer a private space exclusive to marina berth customers and professional superyacht crew, featuring premium business and meeting facilities, private function space and dedicated customer amenities.”
The new year is shaping up to be a period of significant change for the southern Spit.
Demolition of the shuttered Marina Mirage shopping centre will occur after its final restaurants close in January to make way for a $500m luxury Marriott hotel and retail complex.
