A business owner says she is facing a “constant battle for justice” after being dealt another cruel blow while attempting to recover her livelihood from the impacts of Covid.
Owner of Chameleon New Age Salon in Surfers Paradise, Bromwyn Corrigan, has been left devastated after scaffolding appeared in front of her store in mid-December.
Construction work has started to remove marble from the building, which could take weeks to complete.
Ms Corrigan said the scaffolding had impacted her revenue, reducing foot traffic and customers.
The salon owner has launched a petition to raise awareness about “the detrimental effect of scaffolding”.
She said a request to her landlord, EG Funds, to reduce rent during construction was denied.
“Covid has already brought us to our knees,” she said.
“We’re only asking for what’s fair and that is a rent reduction while our landlord turns our livelihood into a construction zone.”
The business owner is now worried about how she will support her young family and 20 staff.
“I just feel like it’s a constant battle for justice. They do this right now when borders are open and during school holidays.
“This should be our time to shine after dealing with everything, staying afloat and surviving Covid as a business.”
The Bulletin contacted EG Funds for comment, but did not receive a response by deadline.
