A mum has been left “horrified” after she made not one, but two, terrifying discoveries in her groceries.

Labrador’s Natasha Thomson was unpacking her shopping when she spotted a highly venomous redback spider in a bag of seedless grapes.

But if that wasn’t scary enough, she also found the spider’s egg sac nestled in the fruit.

Ms Thomson posted photos of the gross find to social media, with some commenting that the sac appeared to look like a “grub”.

“Oh my goodness, that’s not good. Thanks for sharing,” a social media user commented on the post.

Ms Thomson told the Bulletin the grapes were purchased through Coles online delivery and arrived late last week, so she wasn’t sure which store they had come from.

A spokeswoman for the supermarket giant said it was working with suppliers to mitigate the issue.

“Redback spiders hiding in crops is an industry-wide issue and Coles is working closely with our suppliers and industry bodies to remove any risk,” she said.

“All Coles suppliers are required to keep their fields clean and have pest control systems in place to prevent product contamination during packaging.

“Coles takes the quality of all our products seriously and all grapes are visually inspected at harvest and packing for any pest presence.”
